Getting out of your comfort zone is one of the most beneficial things you can do in life. It can open you up to experiencing many opportunities in life you may have never had in the first place. It can also be a great way to grow and learn so much more. Once we get into the habit of taking risks and stepping out of the comfort zone we can start to really live life to its fullest.
Tips on Getting Started
1.)Remember to Start Out Small
By starting out small and working your way up you can take the time to grow and learn a little bit each day. It’s useful to do little each day then work your way up to bigger things gradually over time. Taking on too much might leave you feeling exhausted and way too stressed to keep pushing yourself to take even bigger risks over time.
2.)Be Willing to Learn From Mistakes
Mistakes are a big part of getting out of your comfort zone. By being open minded about making mistakes and learning from them instead of shutting down from them and giving up, you give yourself the chance to learn and do more over time and grow exponentially.
A lot of people are willing to give up from their first mistake but if you are willing to stick it through you could learn a lot and grow a lot and get way farther out of your comfort, maybe even more than you intended or expected. Making mistakes is a great part of life that helps you live it and experience it even if it’s not the most comfortable thing.
3.)List the Benefits
If you still feel hesitant into taking risks thats totally understandable. But what if we choose to reframe how we look at it. If we instead choose to make a list of the benefits of certain risks we can see how much some of these things we have to do to get out of comfort zone could help us live life more or even a better life in general.
These benefits can also keep you going when you have to face bigger challenges that you may come across when stepping out of you comfort zone, this list can serve as a reminder of why you started doing this in the first place. You should remember to keep this list in place where you can see it regularly so that way you have a reminder of why its important to you to step out of comfort zone.
4.)Learning to Say Yes
There probably have been times in your life when people have offered to do things with you or try new things and you simply have said no. It is easy to say no to things and when we do that it really keeps us in our comfort zone. By simply being willing to say yes more often to opportunities to ourselves we allow ourselves to grow. It is also one of the easier ways to get started to leave our comfort zone because we are not having to seek the oppuritnes these are the ones that our simply presented to us.
Things You Can Try
1.)Try Learning Something New
One of the simplest ways to start getting outside of your comfort zone is trying to learn something new. By learning something new. When we start learning new things we begin to challenge ourselves to different experiences. Also when we start to learn new things we have more of an opportunity to meet people and have other experiences that also can push us outside our comfort zone as well. Here is a couple things that you could start trying to learn to push you a bit outside of your comfort zone:
- Juggling
- Drawing or Painting
- Learning an instrument
- Story writing
- Foriegn Language
2.)Switch up Your Routine
Usually we stick to the same routine all of the time and that can be good in a lot of ways but that the same time this can also get us stuck in a rut. Changing it up by adding small different things to it or simply going somewhere else to do your work is another good way to start getting yourself out of your comfort zone. It helps not to be so locked in and stuck day in and day out. Here are something you can do to change up your routine a bit:
- Be willing to make mistakes and take chances. If we keep doing the same thing and keep doing well, why not push ourselves to take more risks that could be beneficial even if there is a higher chance of failure because doing so can open us upto greater possibility and new potential outcomes.
- Try to do something you thought you would never try in the first place. By doing something you’re not used to or even think you wouldnt want to do in a day you open yourself up even further to something you might find out that you would end up liking.
- Another thing you could try is saying no to things. We often get stuck feeling like we have to do things we don’t want to and overload ourselves. By learning to do so we can gain back more control over our lives and our schedules which can allow you to do more or have more free time for yourself.
- Another interesting way to get out of your comfort zone is reaching out to strangers when they need help. Doing small things for people and going out of your way gets you out of your routine and out of your comfort zone and on top of that it can make someone’s day by doing something small. It can be meaningful to the other person on the receiving end of your small deed.
3.)Travel Somewhere
Exploring a place you have never been can be one of the most exciting and thrilling things you can do in life. The sense of unfamiliarity and uncertainty can be really rewarding and scary. On top of that depending where you go you can experience a whole new culture and see and learn about how these people think and feel about different subjects.
It sheds a new light on things for you to open up your eyes to new perspectives and a new way of living. Not only that but you can try different things that aren’t available at home where these kinds of things aren’t normally done or simply cannot be done where you live. Like going to the beach or going on a hike.
4.)Face one of Your Fears
Probably the hardest thing and obviously scary thing to do is take on one of your fears. Taking on your fears can be a rewarding experience and it can be an experience from which you learn and experience more from life because of it. This helps you step out of your comfort zone because it gets you to do the thing you never thought you would do or want to have anything to do with. Also if you keep an open mind and try to be optimistic before trying doing that thing you might find that you actually like doing said fear.
5.)Volunteering
Volunteering can be a great way to start getting out of your comfort zone plus its a good way to help out others who are in need. If you can start volunteering on a fairly regular basis you can see things in a different light and potentially meet new people as well. Helping out people is one of the most beneficial things you can do to get out of your comfort zone.
6.)Take Class or Learn a New Skill
Taking a class or learning a skill can be simple but effective. It can help you grow and learn something new you never would have thought could be useful or just simply fun. You can also use it as a way to build yourself up professionally or to add to something you already have current interest in. It can help expand current interests and even build new ones.
7.)Start Reading
Kind of like the previous point, reading can be a powerful tool into learning new things and growing which can help you want to do more but also you can teach yourself things as well. This is probably one of the easier smaller things you can do to start getting outside of your comfort zone but can lead you into getting out and trying different things depending on the books you read. Reading is also just simply good for and even if you dont read non fiction it can help you see things in a different way by reading fiction books.
In Summary: Stepping outside of your comfort zone can feel horrifying and challenging. But by remembering to be open minded and see benefits and starting small you can make progress and start getting out of your comfort zone. Little by little it is important to remember to stick with it because progress is made gradually over time. And just trying a couple things on the list is a great start as well but remember there are plenty of other things you can try that arent simply on the list being open to new experiences and ideas you might have may take you places or maybe help you feel like you’re living more of your desired life. And if you didn’t like doing certain things to get out of your comfort zone you don’t have to do them again if you don’t want to.
