Stress is a normal part of our everyday lives. When things get difficult we often get overwhelmed and stressed out. Sometimes it can get too much and overtime degrade our health and wellbeing when left to be undealt with. Its important for us to find ways to deal with our stress so it doesn’t get out of hand. Here are some different ways to deal with your stress.
1.)Meditation
Meditation is one of the most mentioned ways to relax and with good reason yet so many people don’t want to do it or even try to make the time for it. Yet it is probably one of the best ways to relax overtime. Taking as little as 15 minutes each could potentially help you out a lot. Here is a couple ideas to make your mediation more effective and beneficial to help you combat your stress:
- Try to find a comfortable spot where you can meditate consistently each day and time. Being comfortable allows you to relax and unwind which will help manage your stress and the consistent spot and time can help you make a habit of it. By doing these things gradually over time you can make mediation something you want to do rather than something that feels like a hassle or a chore.
- Meditating in the morning or at night. I personally like to end the night with mediation right before I go to sleep because it helps me unwind. But setting yourself up to start the day or end the day with mediation can make it easier to deal with the day to day stresses. It’s a way to let yourself relax before the day starts or after the day is over.
- If you still feel like it’s difficult for you, you can always start by practicing your deep breathing with your eyes open. It’s also important to remember to be easy on yourself, remember that overthinking isn’t a bad thing and sometimes it will take time to recenter your focus on your breathe and it’s good to let yourself think with time you will learn to let go of your thoughts if we obsess and beat ourselves up over our houghts than we cant let go of them.
2.)Exercise
Exercising can be a great way to burn off extra energy and a great way to unwind. Doing simple things such as taking a short walk is a great start to working through some of your stress. Finding ways to incorporate exercise into your daily ritual will help you a lot to unwind. It takes time and effort but is worth putting into most days and doing small things to start and doing those exercises consistently. Here are couple exercise you can do to help you get rid of some of your stress:
- Short walk during the day.
- Bike ride.
- Going to the gym and practicing boxing
- Dancing for fun or dancing classes
- Yoga
3.)Spend Time with Your Friends
Spending time with your friends can be one of the most valuable things you can do. Friends not only can help you have fun and relax but some friends can even help you work through situations and get a different perspective on them. Friends are there for us in the good and bad and that is important to remember especially when reaching out to them, because if they are good friends they will at the very least be there for you to listen to you.
4.)Work on getting a full nights rest
Sleeping gives us a way to recharge, its one of the most valuable things that we have. Plenty of studies show that a lot of Americans don’t get enough sleep to function on a day to day basis. Losing a lot of sleep of time can be critical to your health and is important to keeping yourself relaxed, going only so much sleep is more likely to make us more agitated and upset when we dont have a sufficient amount of rest. Heres a few tips for better nights sleep:
- Give yourself a bare minimum of 30 minutes to an hour preferably an hour before bed time without any screen exposure whether that be your phone monitor or tv you name it. There’s loads of research to back up that blue light keeps our brains awake and additionally studies have proved the contrary that blue light blocking filters are not effective at helping reduce blue lights.
- Making your room comfortable is obviously a given but there is certain things you can do to make it better:
1.) Getting a new mattress. Now not everyone can do this but sometimes the best option isn’t always the cheapest thing to do and can help you out immensely.
2.) Getting a better blinds and managing what light comes into the room. To much light can leave you to be more wired and awake. It’s good to try to sleep in a room that is as dark as possible.
3.)Keeping your room cool. Whether your using a fan or air conditioner its important to keep cool while you sleep. It will help you get a better nights rest. If you dont have many options to keep yourself cool removing layers of blankets and not sleeping with as many or sometimes any might help you aswell.
- Keeping an eye on what you eat and drink before you go to bed can help manage how well you sleep. If you eat really heavy foods before you goto bed it can agitate your stomach. Things like caffeine are also give because its stimulant and is much more likely to make you wired.
5.) Speaking to Yourself in a Positive Light
Learning to switch the way we talk to ourselves can help us deal with negative thoughts and in doing so we can learn to be more forgiving to ourselves and see our selfs in a positive light. Here are somethings to help you treat yourself in a better manner:
- Rather than judge negative thoughts that occur and try to stop them, ask yourself why am i thinking this way? Is there reason behind this thought.
- Sit with negative feelings rather then judging those, let yourself feel negative emotions without criticism.
- Sometimes opening up to someone about these negative thoughts might help you see things in a different light, we typically are, our worst critics when it comes to everything when we reach out to friend and talk to them a good friend will probably be able to tell you how things are better than what they appear and how you are probably being harsh on yourself. Having that extra bit of perspective can open you up to seeing things differently.
In Summary: Dealing with stress isn’t the easiest thing to do, and many people are really stressed and feel tired and overworked in this day and age. But by giving yourself time to relax unwind and bond with people and speak to yourself and to be easier on yourself as well as the rest of the things I mentioned on the list we can learn to feel a little more relaxed and unwind a bit more
